February 2019 Annual Dinner
On Wednesday February 27, 2019, the Friends of Ronald Regan reconvened for its Annual Spring Dinner at the California Club in downtown Los Angeles. FORR welcomed the renowned Father of Supply-Side Economics, Arthur B. Laffer, for a fireside conversation.
Arthur B. Laffer
Arthur B. Laffer served under both the Nixon and Regan administrations as an economic advisor. In 1970, President Richard Nixon appointed Laffer as the Chief Economist in the Office of Management and Budget. From 1972-1977, he served as a consultant to Treasury Secretary William Simon, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, and Treasury Secretary George Schultz. Following the election of Regan in 1980, Laffer was appointed to the President’s Economic Policy Advisory Board, a position he would serve as for both terms (1981-1989). He also advised Margaret Thatcher on Fiscal Policy in the U.K. Formerly the distinguished University Professor at Pepperdine University and member of its Board of Directors, from 1976 to 1984, he also taught at the University of Southern California as the Charles B. Thornton Professor of Business Economics, also serving as Associate Professor of Business Economics at the University of Chicago from 1970 to 1976. Laffer has written numerous New York Times best-selling books and has published works featured in multiple major News Papers. Shortly after his appearance at the FORR Annual dinner, Laffer received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of his public service and contributions to economic policy that have helped spur prosperity for our Nation.
